The first rover awaits its entry into LUNA
On 08.11.2023, the DLR Microgravity User Support Center (MUSC) has received the first rover for LUNA from NEUROSPACE GmbH (Berlin). After a short introduction and set-up of the necessary infrastructure, a first driving was successfully performed inside the MUSC building.
The rover named HiveR is based on a CubeSat design with a total size of 45 x 35 x 30 cm3 and at the moment provides a payload volume of 3U (30 x 10 x 10 cm3). After extensive internal testing and many test-runs, a special LUNA dust-proofed design was developed to withstand the demands of the regolith present in LUNA for as long as possible.
The realization of this rover for LUNA is the very first official delivery of the new start-up NEUROSPACE GmbH to a customer. This is supported by the LUNA project within the context of the scientific research as well as knowledge and technology transfer.
Until the realization of LUNA, the rover will stay at MUSC, which is currently working on the transfer of the rover’s controls into the upcoming LUNA Mission Control System (MCS). In December 2023, a second rover is expected to be delivered at MUSC.
